Why am I running for office?

Hello. I am Trevor McGarrah (pronounced McGarr). I am a high school teacher in Searcy, Arkansas where I teach students the subjects of science and computer science classes, depending on what the school needs me to teach that school year. I am also the Democratic candidate for Arkansas State Representative District 58.

As I mentioned, I teach students. They are my focus in the classroom. It is my job to give each student what they need and not just to teach them the content. I will always put the needs of my students first.

Likewise, when I am elected in November, I will put the people of Arkansas first. Abraham Lincoln said it best when he declared that our government should be “of the people, by the people, and for the people.”

I got tired of waiting for another great statesman like Abraham Lincoln to come along, but I knew something had to change. We need a more people-focused legislature who is looking out for the needs of everyday Arkansans like you.

When I made the decision to run, I told myself, if not me, then who? If not now, then when? I’m running for State Representative to be a voice for regular Arkansans like you, and I’m asking for your support and your vote.

Thank you and God bless!

Got Questions?

I have a page where I briefly elaborate on the five issues I feel are the most important. I invite you to read through that page to see if you can find an answer there.

If you would like to know more about where I stand on those or other issues, I invite you to email me at tdmcgarrah@gmail.com or reach out to me on the social media platforms where I regularly post information and answers to questions.

I'm running as a Democrat for the Arkansas House of Representatives because I believe our government should work for all Arkansans, not just the wealthy and well-connected. As a teacher, I've dedicated my life to helping every student succeed, regardless of their background or abilities. I see firsthand how our state can do more to support regular people like you and me, who often struggle to make ends meet.

Our current legislature focuses too much on aiding millionaires and billionaires, neglecting the needs of the poor and working class. I want to bring a new approach to Little Rock, one that prioritizes the needs of everyday Arkansans and doesn't pander to people with deep pockets. It’s time for a government that truly represents and serves all its people.

Absolutely, I am more than willing to listen to you about your concerns. As a candidate for the Arkansas House of Representatives, one of my top priorities is listening to and addressing the issues that matter most to the people I aim to represent. Your insights and experiences are invaluable in shaping policies that truly serve our community.

I want to emphasize that I am not running to be a representative for my party, but a true representative of the people I am elected to serve. It is my duty to be the voice for all of you in Little Rock, not just the political party next to my name. Whether it's about education, healthcare, jobs, or any other topic, I'm here to listen and work together towards solutions that benefit us all. Please feel free to reach out—I look forward to our conversation.

I will do my best to return every phone call and to answer every email, but it can sometimes be very challenging, especially when many people express similar concerns at the same time. While I may not be able to reply to each person individually, I will always strive to be open and transparent about my answers, beliefs, and the reasoning behind every vote and piece of legislation I work on.

I am committed to listening to all perspectives, even if they differ from my own. It is important to me that everyone feels heard and respected, and I will make every effort to ensure that my decisions reflect a thorough understanding of the concerns and needs of all my constituents.
